Gender Equality in Sports

Gender equality in sports has been one of the most pressing challenges in the sport sector and the world. However, despite the progress made, women and girls continue to face a wide variety of barriers that hinder their sports careers. These include a lack of financial support, a lower visibility in the media and unequal access to training that is sensitive to their physiological differences.

In order to address these issues, the collaborating organizations and the media should raise society’s awareness by increasing the amount of coverage given to women athletes and by promoting the practice of gender-inclusive training. In addition, it is necessary to change the perception of men and women in sport and to stop believing that men are better athletes than women.

To this end, the aim of the study was to examine the views and opinions of a number of female professional athletes in terms of the gender inequality they experienced. Athletes were asked to comment on their perceptions of gender inequality in sport and which difficulties, obstacles and needs they have to overcome in order to pursue a career as an athlete. The data indicated that the majority of the athletes surveyed think that gender inequality in sport is a real and present issue, that it influences the development of women’s sports. In addition, they think that it is important to increase the amount of funding for women’s sport as this would enable them to improve their results.
